Update

07/27/2008

After about a year of sitting around, the site is finally updated. The resume and biography have been made more current. For anyone looking for photography, I've been using Google's Picasa to host them, since it's nicely integrated into the Picasa tool.

Interesting SMP Tidbit

Today, while looking at computer hardware and doing research into how to obtain the most bang for buck out of the modern platforms (I really need to upgrade), a sincere effort needs to be made into looking into how much I will get out of a multi-CPU system. Considering dual-core 64bit processors are becoming the norm, I needed to evaluate how that would impact day to day operations such as Photoshop, 3D rendering, After Effects, etc. Concerning Photoshop specifically, I came across an interesting article on an Adobe blog. The basic rundown: Most filters are multithreaded, most other operations aren't. The benefit I'd see for most working operations is that I can dedicate a single CPU to Photoshop, and every other system task would be done on another. Here's another link (from that page) about optimizing a Windows machine for Photoshop. Verdict: Focus on memory, so it may be AMD.

Plans Gone Awry

Well, for the launch of this site I was going to write a small CMS system that leveraged PHP and XML. Using simple XML contracts for "page", "gallery", and "image" I figured that it could be easily parsed via PHP, Actionscript and AJAX for future compatibility. Since I didn't know PHP that well, this also was a great time to brush up and learn the platform so many people taut as a godsend to the interwebs. Well, not being able to get proper error reporting on this server put that flat on it's face, so... For the sake of getting this site up, it will be static for the moment. Hopefully later it can turn into a test bed for PHP and AJAX.

Expedience

Forgive the simplicity of the design and layout of this site. It's much nicer, from a technical perspective, than the previous incarnation, which was made when CSS was still unproven in the mainstream market. Well, since those days I've kissed table based layouts goodbye, so figured if a portfolio has to be made, anyone inspecting the source wouldn't see messy tables and instead clean CSS. Here you go, inspect away. The actual design, that's sitting on paper at the moment, is a beauteous graphical trip through technology and art. (no, really it is!) But people are asking for this information today, so today it is.
